My fingerprint sensor does work, but it's extremely unreliable. I'm always clearing the recorded fingerprints, and putting them back in, after which it works for a short while (maybe a day, two at the most) and then it becomes really flakey. Barely working at all, for most of the time, but on occasion it will still do it.

So I don't think it's faulty, exactly, but there's something that's just not working quite right with it. Has anyone else experienced this, or have any advice? Thanks!

good question , i think he's on 20170112 https://bbs.elephone.hk/forum.ph ... 9&fromuid=90419 he has maybe missed other threads on the forum to update, but that's a different topic

for me the sensor was not working as he described with that ROM though...

by what you describe you can improve the situation by cleaning the scanner. what about cleaning the scanner, remove all recorded fingerprints from security, and record a clean set of fingerprints. would that work?

The P9000's fingerprint-sensor was just as unreliable (or: unusable) to me as well, except with the latest official Android7-ROM.
With that it worked almost as good as in the M3. With the main-index-finger scanned twice, which greatly enhances the reliability.

I'm on Android 7.0, 20170904, which I think is the latest ROM? (And yes, of course I know how to flash a ROM).

I've kept the sensor clean, and even removed the phone's case so I can effectively put "more" of my finger against the sensor. I've also added the same finger a couple of times, to try and improve it in that respect too. Although without much success, sadly.

It seemed to be working pretty well when I first updated to Android 7, but then got worse and worse.

Any other thoughts?

No. Seems you did everything right.

The only thing I would try (if it were mine) would be a full format and fresh install of latest ROM.

I experienced the same problem, even after I did a fresh install to upgrade to the latest ROM 20170904

Yeah, I was kind of afraid of that. I might try a hard reset when I can face doing it, and start saving for a new phone in the meantime! Thanks for the replies!

Full Format is easily done with MTK-phones with the SP-Flash-Tool.

But take care to note both IMEI, the WiFi-MAC and the serial-number before you do, because the phone will most likely lose them all.
You can rewrite them with the SN-Write-Tool. Easy, but you really should note the values.

(IMEI and Serial are usually printed on the phone's box if you still have it, but not the MAC)
