Smartphones, like other technologies, are improving from year to year.
Every new model has better characteristics than the previous one: more powerful and less energy-consuming processor, better camera sensor, screen, bigger battery, more RAM.

What is RAM?
It stands, in general, for Random Access Memory. It allows to write and read data at the same time, despite their location in the memory.
As a type of RAM, DRAM stands for Dynamic random-access memory, which doesn't store information without power.

Smartphones
A particular type of DRAM is used in this case: LPDDR (Low Power DDR). The most recent model is the LPDDR4, which has 50% higher performance than the fastest LPDDR3 and consume around 40% less energy.

Android management memory
A simple explanation: in this OS, when you exit an app, it is kept in background. This happens with all the applications; when there is the necessity of more free memory, the apps are killed. Which process will be killed and which will not be killed? This is based on a "hierarchy system". A service gives to the processes values which indicate their single "importance".
So, more RAM should mean more applications and processes maintained in background..yes, theorically.
Practically, often, not in every case, it is occupied with bloatware and things like that.

According to some, 4 GB of RAM should still be enough, based on rom and resolution display.
For the most exiggent users, many manufacturers introduced devices with 6 GB of RAM.
Elephone too, obviously, announced its powerful model, the Elephone P8.

How much RAM do you prefer in your smartphone? How much do you think is enough for you?

P8 :-) which means 6GB.

But I would be satisfied with 4GB as well for now.
It's not to be expected that the CURRENT models will be updated long enough to NEED more than 4GB RAM to run smoothly.

Quite contrary: I would be very surprised if Elephone would update the P8 only to Oreo, which does not even need 4GB, let alone 6GB.

How much I prefer? as much as possible... but if i have.to be realistic, 4 GB is enough. I think, it will take a few years, till we feel a difference between smartphones with 4 and 6 (or even 8) GB ram by normal use. And ddr4 ram is only usefull, if the read and write speeds of ddr3 ram are slowing down the cpu

My P8 mini has 4Gb and I never run out, so 4Gb is enough for today's standards.
